RCS Classics JSA, Animated Legion, New Gods, Composite Superman, Thor, Captain America and Invaders!

Oh my, I forgot to post the physical blog posting with episode links a month ago! These all got uploaded on Libsyn at the end of June, to fill up feed space & justify the monthly cost I pay at Libsyn to host the podcast. So jump in your time machine & head back to 2015 & 2016, to an era that seems like a lifetime ago & enjoy six "classic" episodes from the original run of the podcast.

First up was an episode that discussed the Golden Age All-Star Comics series, complete with me reading an introductory missive written by Roy Thomas, you can listen to that episode here: RCS Classic: JSA/All-Star Comics Intro (2015)

Next up is another episode from 2015, where I look at Adventures in the DC Universe #10, an often overlooked gem of series with comic adventures set in the then young DC Animated Universe. This particular issue was a Legion of Superheroes adventure that marked their debut into the DCAU. You can check it out here: RCS Classic: Adventures in the DCU #10 (2015)

Another episode covering a mid 90's DC book is this episode where I jump into New Gods #12, which marks a bold new direction for the series when John Byrne takes over both writing and art duties on the series. You can check it out here: RCS Classic: New Gods #12 (2015)

Next up, I re-uploaded an episode from 2016 where I took a look at World's Finest Comics #142, the debut of the Composite Superman, the bane of Shag Matthews and Rob Kelly's podcasting existence! You can check out my recap of that daring adventure of the Superman & Batman team here: RCS Classic: WF #142 Composite Superman! (2016)

Next up, was an episode where I shared my love for Kirby's Silver Age Thor work at Marvel, and give a rundown of the crazy web of Thor reprints in the Bronze Age. All that plus classic KISS God of Thunder goodness can tickle your eardrums here: RCS Classic: God of Thunder, King of Comics

And finally this time out, I had my 2015 4th of July Super Spectacular episode, an episode looking at one of my favorite Captain America issues of all-time, the mid-70's return of Jack Kirby to Marvel & the character he created 35 years earlier, Captain America #193 MADBOMB!!! In the episode I also tackle some classic issues of Invaders starring the British super-team the Crusaders, a team made of Golden Age Quality Comics Analogs, with a Nedor/Standard Fightin' Yank analog thrown in for good measure. You can catch of that Bronze Age flag-waving goodness here: RCS Classic: 4th of July Spectacular (2015)

RCS Classic Episodes 001-003 Superboy, Fantastic Four, and Batman!

It may be April Fool's Day, but no fooling when I say that the first 3 episodes of Random Comic Showcase (RCS for short) which were originally produced in 2015, are now available for download again on as "RCS Classic" on the new KSCGSF Feed on Apple Podcasts (iTunes). These episodes were on older back issues, so they should be "timeless" in a sense and just as relevant (or irrelevant) now as they were back in 2015.

I hope you all are remaining safe and healthy during this pandemic, and hopefully these episodes can give you a brief respite from the stress associated with these uncertain times.

All of these episodes are available on Apple Podcasts, but they can also be downloaded directly here as well.

First up in Episode 1 is a brief look at Superboy (1994) #60-75, by Karl Kesel & Tom Grummett. Download & listen here: RCS Classic Ep 001 Superboy (1994) #60-75

Episode 2 looks at Fantastic Four Vol 3, issues #35-45 as they were collected in the TPBs "Flesh & Stone" and "Into the Breach" Download & listen here: RCS Classic Ep 002 Fantastic Four Vol 3 #35-45

In Episode 3 I recap Batman #402 by Max Collins & Jim Starlin (this may be the best issue from that run). Download & listen here: RCS Classic Ep 003 Batman #402

Also, last night I released a "classic" episode of King-Size Comics Giant-Size Fun, that recapped the history of the original 100 Page Super Spectaculars published by DC in the Bronze Age, that is available for download here: KSCGSF Classic Bronze Age 100 Page Super Spectaculars

Feedback for the podcast can be left via an iTunes review, here at the blog, by visiting the King-Size Comics Giant-Size Fun Facebook Page or on twitter @KyleBenning_Art

RCS Ep 030 - The Hunt: New Marvel & DC Rebirth 3-Packs in Walmart ?!?!?

Welcome to the landmark 30th Episode of Random Comic Showcase, the Podcast where I look at some other element of comics or geek culture that doesn't fall into the normal format of any of my other shows on the feed.

Naturally, to mark this milestone episode, I return to probably the most commonly discussed topic on these Random Comic Showcase episodes, "The Hunt" and the latest place I've located comic books. Yes this time out I'm once again ranting and raving about my recent comic book finds, which include a new format of comic multi-pack, once again located at Walmart. Gone are the comic 4-packs with 80's and 90's Marvel Comics, that I waxed nostalgia about back in the late spring/early summer. Those mylar bags of joy disappeared a few weeks after I waxed nostalgic about them, but after a couple of month absence, they have been replaced by new Marvel & DC Comic 3-Packs, chalked full of nothing but recent material. And I ramble on all about here in this episode.

This time out, I give a National Comic Book Day salute to Jack Kirby and then talk about the history of Silver & Bronze Thor Reprint series published by Marvel, culminating in my coverage of the "Tales of Asgard" story from Journey Into Mystery #116 as presented in 1973's Marvel Spectacular #1.

Welcome to the 28th Episode of Random Comic Showcase, the Podcast where I look at some other element of comics or geek culture that doesn't fall into the normal format of any of my other shows on the feed. This time out I'm once again ranting and raving about my recent comic book finds. I open 3 more poly-bagged surprises, as well as boast about the Bronze Age Green Lantern issues I scored at the local thrift store. All that plus more meandering down Nostalgia Lane.

As always, you can subscribe to the podcast on iTunes under the King-Size Comics Giant-Size Fun Podcast feed, or download the episode directly here:RCS Ep 028 The Hunt Continues! More Random Comic Finds!

RCS #027 You Never Know Where You'll Find a Comic Book Part 2

Welcome to the 27th Episode of Random Comic Showcase, the Podcast where I look at some other element of comics or geek culture that doesn't fall into the normal format of any of my other shows on the feed. This time out, I have 2 episodes for you in this one blog post, dedicated to some random comic finds and the joy they brought me. As my buddy Shag Matthews always says, you have to "find your comic book joy," and for me personally, there's no better way to do that than assorted grab bags of comics, especially when they yield relatively self contained "one-and-done" stories. I was surprised to come across random assorted comic 4-packs at Walmart the other day, picked a couple up, and found a number of assorted gems inside, including West Coast Avengers #18, by Steve Englehart, Al Milgrom, and Joe Sinnott. It was a glorious fun romp! What a fun & exciting action packed comic! The West Coast Avengers team get time displaced to the 1870's Old West where they team-up with Two-Gun Kid, Rawhide Kid, and Night (Ghost) Rider.

This takes me back to being a kid, where I would find quite the assortment of random comics at garage sales, on the newsstand, or in comic 4-packs similar to these I've been finding at Wal Mart. You never know what you're going to get out of these mystery bags, but it's a blast diving in and finding a random single issue story be so much fun!

So give these  two episodes a listen, in this episode I open 2 more packs, as well as reflect on some of the contents I read from the first set of packs. In both episodes I reflect & reminisce on collecting comics in my youth, and the fun nostalgic trip that these comics took me back on. I'm grinning ear to ear as I open these comics, and have had a blast sampling this random assortment of Marvel comics from the 1980's and 1990's.
As always, you can listen to the podcast by subscribing to the King-Size Comics Giant-Size Fun Podcast Feed on iTunes, or by downloading the episodes directly here:RCS Ep 027 You Never Know Where You'll Find Comics Part 2

During this episode I mentioned my pal Clinton Robison's blog, Coffee & Comics, where his most recent blogpost covers an issue of April O'Neil that was a 3-issue tie-in series to the ongoing TMNT Adventures series that Archie put out. If you like my podcast, and especially if you liked kind of the random nature of these 2 episodes, and some of the off-the-wall comics I talked about here, odds are you'll love Clinton's fine blog, where he likewise takes a similar random look at a lot of comics from this 1980's and 1990's era. You can find his blog here:Clinton Robison's Coffee & Comics Blog

Welcome to the 26th Episode of Random Comic Showcase, the Podcast where I look at some other element of comics or geek culture that doesn't fall into the normal format of any of my other shows on the feed. You never know what you're going to get out of these mystery bags, but it's a blast diving in and finding a random single issue story be so much fun!
So give these episodes a listen, in Part 1 I talk all about my find, and open 3 packs on-air and reflect briefly on some of the contents. In both episodes I reflect & reminisce on collecting comics in my youth, and the fun nostalgic trip that these comics took me back on. I'm grinning ear to ear as I open these comics, and have had a blast sampling this random assortment of Marvel comics from the 1980's and 1990's.

During this first episode I mention the fantastic podcast "90's Comic Retrial" by my pal Nathaniel Wayne, part of the Council of Geeks network of content. I was pleased to be a recent guest of Nathaniel's, on an episode that is yet to be released, but odds are if these episodes and the comics discussed in it strike a nostalgic chord with you, you'll love the content of his show, that as the name implies, covers comics from the 90's. Check it out here:90's Comic Retrial Podcast

Random Comics Showcase Ep 015 Star Wars Force Awakens Trailer

Welcome to the 15th Episode of Random Comic Showcase and what is the first of a subset of "Star Wars Saturdays" themed episodes, counting down to the release of Episode VII The Force Awakens on December 18th, 2015. This time out, I share my reaction to the Force Awakens Trailer that debuted on Monday while I drive home from work.... because why not?

As always, the episode is available on iTunes via the King-Size Comics Giant-Size Fun Podcast feed, or you can download it directly here:Random Comic Showcase Ep 015 Star Wars Force Awakens Trailer

In the Episode I mention three other podcast episodes worth checking out that articulate their thoughts on the trailer much better than I was able to convey in my episode, so check those out.

I mentioned Episodes 31 & 32 of Ryan Daly's Dead Bothan Spies Podcast where he is joined by Rob Kelly & Shag Matthews of the Fire & Water Podcast in Episode 31 and Nathaniel Wayne of the Council of Geeks Podcast in Episode 32 to discuss the ins and outs of the Force Awakens Trailer.

A cast of Two True Freaks regulars also got together to share their thoughts on the Trailer with a "5 Minute Freak" episode, which you can listen to HERE
